Baker Hughes wins Petrobras deal to boost output offshore Brazil

Baker Hughes has secured a multi-year agreement with Petrobras to continue deploying the Blue Marlin and Blue Orca stimulation vessels for Brazil’s offshore post- and pre-salt fields, the company said Wednesday.

The contract, awarded following an open tender, includes the supply of associated chemicals and services to maximise oil and gas production. The vessels will support stimulation and well construction operations, including gravel pack and frac pack interventions.

The value of the deal was not disclosed.

“Stimulation vessels are critical for optimising production and limiting costly downtime in offshore fields,” Baker Hughes executive vice-president Amerino Gatti said. “Blue Marlin and Blue Orca have long histories in Brazil… This latest award further reinforces our Mature Assets Solutions strategy.”

Operating in Brazil since 2008 and 2023 respectively, the Blue Marlin and Blue Orca have logged over 650 perfect HSE days as of September 1, 2025. Most chemicals used in the operations will be locally sourced to support Brazil’s energy supply chain.

Baker Hughes is a US-based energy technology firm offering products and services across the upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas segments, including drilling, completions, production, and digital solutions.

In Brazil, Baker Hughes plays a key role in offshore development, supporting Petrobras’ activities in pre-salt basins and contributing to localisation through sourcing and technology deployment.
