Exxon targeting more wells in its biggest year for discoveries offshore Guyana

Following the announcement last week of two more discoveries at Sailfin-1 and Yarrow-1 in the ExxonMobil-operated Stabroek Block, the hunt for more high-quality oil resources is now set to continue at the Fish-1 and Lancetfish-1 prospects offshore the South American country.

Hess Corporation, which holds a 30% working interest in the Stabroek Block, said the Fish-1 exploration well is located approximately 62 miles northwest of Liza-1. It said this well will target multiple stacked reservoir intervals.

Hess said that the Lancetfish-1 well, located approximately 3 miles west of the Liza-3 well, will target deeper reservoirs. Hess officials also noted that Lancetfish is tucked close to the Liza field. In fact, it is about three miles west of the Liza-1 well and targets deep sands that underlie that Liza complex.

In light of these new targets, among others planned, Chief Executive Officer, John Hess said there’s clearly a lot of prospectivity to come.

Hess said, “As we get more success in finding these deeper horizons, our ability to correlate the seismic with new prospects are lighting up. So, there’s a lot more upside…hopefully in the next six months we’ll be able to give updates on.”

In the meantime, the fourth quarter will see appraisal activities continuing at the Fangtooth SE-1 well, which is a deep test located approximately 8 miles southeast of the Fangtooth-1 discovery well.
