South American neighbors make hydrocarbon collaboration official

The deal formalizes the two firms’ intention to examine cooperation opportunities in specific areas, such as exploration and production of hydrocarbons, carbon capture and storage, renewable energy, exchange of knowledge and expertise, and contingency response planning and execution.

“We are delighted with the collaboration that can now take concrete form. Petrobras is a world-renowned company, especially in the technical field,” said Annand Jagesar, CEO of Staatsolie.

The MoU gives Staatsolie access to over 1,200 patents held by Petrobras to further develop Sutiname’s oil, gas, and energy industry and make it more sustainable while contributing to regional energy resilience and transition.

The energy security in another country neighboring Brazil – Colombia – is feared to be at stake after a judge ordered the suspension of drilling operations at the Petrobras-operated Uchuva-2 well in Colombian waters.

Last week, the Brazilian major handed out two subsea assignments to TechnipFMC. The UK player is set to work on riser flexible pipes and subsea production systems to be used on the Atapu 2Sepia 2, and Roncador projects in the Brazilian pre-salt area.
