Equinor and Shell unveil UK North Sea’s largest independent producer: Adura

Equinor and Shell have unveiled Adura as the name of their new incorporated joint venture, set to become the UK North Sea’s largest independent oil and gas producer, the companies said on Thursday.

The announcement marks a major milestone in the formation of the new entity, which will combine the partners’ UK offshore oil and gas assets. Adura, derived from “Aberdeen” and “durability”, will be headquartered in Aberdeen’s Silver Fin building. The company is expected to launch by the end of 2025, subject to regulatory approval.

“We are so pleased to have reached this major milestone in the creation of the new company with Shell. For us, the name Adura represents the very heart of this company and speaks to its people and place within the energy community anchored in Aberdeen,” Equinor UK upstream senior vice-president Camilla Salthe said.

“Adura takes an exciting step forward today as we unveil its new name – rooted in a proud history in the North Sea and looking forward with confidence to delivering secure energy for the UK for many years to come,” Shell UK upstream senior vice-president Simon Roddy said.

Adura will focus on sustaining domestic oil and gas production and ensuring energy security for the UK. Its creation was first announced in December 2024 and reflects a strategic consolidation of assets and expertise to form a robust, value-driven portfolio.
