Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) has signed with TotalEnergies and Grupo Matrix Energia to transport Argentine gas for export to Brazil, YPFB announced on Tuesday.
TotalEnergies has obtained permits to source natural gas for export from the Austal and Neuquina basins, which Grupo Matrix Energia will purchase on the basis of delivery at the Argentine border.
The gas will enter the Bolivian gas transportation network at Yacuiba, on the Argentina-Bolivia border, and be transported up to 1,000 kilometres through Santa Cruz to exit points at San Matías or Mutún, on the Bolivia-Brazil border.
The agreement follows an MoU signed between Argentina and Brazil earlier in November 2024 which planned for exports of 2 mcm (70.6 mcf) per day in the short term, with volumes gradually increasing to reach 30 mcm (1.1 bcf) per day in 2030.
“This joint effort by the three companies represents a crucial step towards starting the supply of natural gas from Vaca Muerta and the Argentine basins, through the Integrated Transport System (SIT) of Bolivia, to the Brazilian consumer market. It promotes the continuity of the initiatives recently announced by the companies and regional energy integration,” said YPFB.
